Breville Dual Boiler & Oracle Upgrades: Best Accessories | Coffee Nerd

The Breville Dual Boiler and Oracle are two of the best prosumer espresso machines on the market. But even the best machines benefit from a few smart upgrades. Here's what's worth adding.

1. Stainless Steel Diffuser Plate - Replace the Plastic Before It Fails

This is the upgrade most Dual Boiler and Oracle owners don't know they need - until their shots start tasting off for no obvious reason.

The stock diffuser plate is made from plastic. Over time, it absorbs coffee oils, warps under repeated heat and pressure cycles, and eventually cracks. When it does, water distribution across the puck becomes uneven, causing channelling that no amount of grind adjustment will fix.

Our Stainless Steel Diffuser Plate is a direct drop-in replacement. Same fitment, completely different material. It doesn't crack, doesn't warp, and doesn't absorb oils - and it'll outlast your machine.

Compatible with: Breville Dual Boiler (BES920), Oracle (BES980), Oracle Touch (BES990), Oracle Dual Boiler (BES995), Oracle Jet (BES985).

2. High Diffusion Shower Screen - Even Water Distribution, Every Shot

Since you'll already have the grouphead open to replace the diffuser plate, it's worth upgrading the shower screen at the same time. The two components work together as your water distribution system - replacing both gives you the full benefit.

The high diffusion shower screen distributes water more evenly across the puck surface, which means more consistent extraction and better flavour clarity shot to shot.

3. 58mm Bottomless Portafilter - See What Your Machine Can Do

The Dual Boiler and Oracle are 58mm machines, and swapping to a bottomless portafilter is the fastest way to understand your extraction. The spouted portafilter hides everything - a bottomless shows you channelling, uneven flow, and distribution issues in real time.

Once you can see what's happening, dialling in becomes significantly easier.

4. Coffee Distributor - Even Puck Prep, Every Time

Once you're using a bottomless portafilter and can see your extraction, uneven puck prep becomes impossible to ignore. A distributor levels the coffee bed before tamping, eliminating high and low spots that cause channelling.

It's the missing step between grinding and tamping - and once you add it to your workflow, pulling a consistent shot becomes dramatically more repeatable.

Where to Start

If your machine is more than two years old and you haven't replaced the diffuser plate, start there - it's the highest-impact, lowest-cost upgrade you can make. Pair it with the shower screen while the grouphead is open, and you've overhauled your water distribution system for under $120.

Add a bottomless portafilter and distributor and you've got a seriously dialled-in 58mm setup - better puck prep, better visibility, better espresso.
