Breville builds exceptional machines. But like most manufacturers, they cut corners on internal components that customers rarely see — including the diffuser plate. On the Oracle, Oracle Touch, Dual Boiler, and Oracle Dual Boiler, this part is made from plastic.

That means every single shot, near-boiling water under 9 bars of pressure passes through a plastic component before it ever reaches your coffee.

Over time — sometimes sooner than you'd expect — that plastic warps. It cracks. It traps oils from previous shots. And when it does, water distribution across the puck becomes uneven. How do I install it?

Remove your shower screen by unscrewing the centre bolt. The plastic diffuser plate sits directly behind it and will lift straight out. Drop the stainless replacement in, refit the shower screen, and tighten the bolt. Run a backflush cycle before pulling your first shot. The whole process takes under five minutes and requires no special tools.

Will I notice a difference?

Most users do — particularly on machines that are 2+ years old where the stock plastic plate has already seen significant wear. If your shots have become harder to dial in, or you're experiencing channelling you can't explain, the diffuser plate is one of the first things worth replacing.

Do I need to replace the shower screen at the same time?
